They say “It’s the thought that counts”. When it comes to gifts, that’s good advice to follow. Wouldn’t you rather receive a gift that was created with you, and only you, in mind. Personalized gift baskets are the answer to making someone feel special.

There are all kinds of occasions where a personalized gift basket would be appropriate. Graduation, a new home and a bridal shower are all perfect examples where creating a tailored made gift would not only be appreciated, but practical. Giving someone items they can actually use is much more thoughtful than someone they’ll stick on a shelf collecting dust.

As for the cost involved, that’s totally up to your wallet. Shopping way ahead of time will help keep the costs down. Don’t shy away from thrift shops and flea markets because lots of times people have new items, still in the original packaging, selling for a fraction of what you would pay for in a regular store.

Before you shop for items to fill your basket, make a list of all the person’s hobbies, interests and needs. That will help you brainstorm some really good ideas before shopping impulsively. Also, think of what the gift is for. A “new baby” basket will have different items than a “get well basket”, regardless of what their interests are.

Okay, so you know who you’re giving it to and what the occasion is for and you have your items. Next is the packaging. Before you rush out a buy a basket, is there something else you can use as a container. If you’re creating a “new home” gift, instead of a basket, try a cooking pot or dustpan. If you’re giving a baby shower gift, use a diaper bag.

What’s a better idea for a gift for a sports fanatic than personalized gift baskets. No matter what sport they’re into, there’s a way to personalize it to their taste. I’m going to go over a few great ideas for you to put your touch on designing a gift basket or at least give you thoughts to have a gift store or sports shop do it for you.

Major League Baseball – Does the person wear hats? Start off with a baseball cap of their favorite team. Maybe a t-shirt rolled up and tucked inside the hat. Players cards are something that you can put in the basket along with a figurine of his idol.

National Football League – As with baseball, start off with a jersey of the persons favorite team. throw in some players cards. Another great thing that you can do is put a couple of tickets to the college football game (it a lot easier and cheaper than the NFL.

NASCAR – Out of all the different sports related gift baskets tat you can put together a NASCAR one would have the most to put in it. Not only can you buy clothing  (t-shirts, hats and jackets)to put in the basket, but that could also include sunglasses, commemorative pins and buttons. If they drink coffee, get them a mug of their #1 driver. Add a bumper sticker or another type of sticker to show their spirit. Get the person tickets to a race in the area or if you really want to dress up the gift basket, get them a pass to a racing school near where they live. There are many in the country and I’m sure there’s one nearby.

As for other sports that they may be into, National Hockey League, National Basketball Association, Major League Soccer, you can easily put together personalized gift baskets to make it a gift to remember.
